NEW HOPE’S “SECOND SATURDAY”
CHOCOLATE FEST

Saturday, September 13 ~ 6 to 9PM

Art galleries, shops, restaurants and accommodations in New Hope are joining together for Chocolate Fest during September’s town-wide Second Saturday event. From chocolate covered cherries at Image Makers Art Gallery to Chocolate Stout on tap at Triumph Brewing Company, complimentary cocoa creations await New Hope visitors on Saturday, September 13 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. (or later). Free guided gallery tours take place again this month beginning at 7:00 and 8:00 p.m. at the New Hope Visitors Center on the corner of South Main and West Mechanic Streets.

Second Saturday also marks the kick-off of “Toast of the Town,” a benefit for Embraceable You, a documentary film capturing the history and diversity of the accepting community of New Hope. From September 13 through September 27, participating bars throughout town offer Embraceable You libations, with half the price going directly to the making of the film. Responsible drinkers can vote for the “best drink” and “best presentation.” The participating businesses are Bowman’s Tavern, Havana Restaurant & Bar, Karla’s Restaurant, Logan Inn, Marsha Brown, Martine’s Riverhouse Restaurant, Mother’s Restaurant, 90 Main Restaurant & Lounge, Triumph Brewing Company and Zoubi Restaurant & Bar.

Among the highlights of Second Saturday in New Hope:

Art’s Fox and Hound Bed & Breakfast (246 West Bridge Street) offers a special Chocolate Lover’s Romantic Weekend Package featuring a private patio, balcony or secluded sun deck room plus gourmet hand dipped chocolates, champagne and fresh flowers.

BOI's of New Hope (9 West Mechanic Street) hosts a "Premier Coup" demonstration by local artist Larry Chestnut.

Gallery Piquel (39 North Main Street) hosts a champagne reception for landscape artist Adriano Farinella.

Howard Gallery of Fine Art (77 West Bridge Street) is featuring Bucks County Studio Painter Dot Bunn, Steve Messenger, Christine Drewyer and others. Sample some great CHOCOLATEÊ FAVORATES while savoring great artwork.

Image Makers Art Gallery (12 West Mechanic Street) spotlights newly & acquired work from David Crosby and Bill Kreutzmann, and recognizes its current exhibit of Jerry Garcia paintings and limited edition prints with complimentary chocolate covered cherries (á la Ben & Jerry’s popular ice cream tribute).

J & W Gallery (20 West Bridge Street) presents new works by Provincetown artists Michael McGuire (oils) and Marc Kundmann (encaustic), and offers 15% off any purchase.

Logan Inn (10 West Ferry Street) hosts musician Jon Ashe in the outdoor Magnolia Terrace.

Mechanic Street Mugs (10 West Mechanic Street) shows off ergonomic bowls made by owner Joel Roberts and shares a complimentary glass of wine with visitors.

Michener Art Museum – New Hope (500 Union Square Drive) continues its fall exhibit Art and the River, which explores the iconic influence of the region’s waterways as seen through the eyes of the area’s famed artists.

New Hope Arts Center (2 Stockton Avenue) welcomes Roger Steffens for a multi-media presentation of unreleased footage, film and music of Reggae mega-star Bob Marley. As a friend of Marley’s, Steffens amassed an amazing oral history of the Reggae movement and serves as caretaker for the musician’s largest existing archives. Tickets are $20 for the public or $15 for New Hope Arts Center members.

New Hope Sidetracks Art Gallery (2A Stockton Avenue) celebrates with upbeat music by Fiddlesticks, performed by husband and wife duo Nancy Shill and Charlie Pellegrino. These multi-talented artists are also featured in Sidetracks’ current exhibit, Naked in New Hope.

Tear Drop Memories / NorthFork Pet Antiques (12 West Mechanic Street, 2B) presents a special exhibition of over a hundred rare Victorian pet and wildlife photographs. From great Grandma’s tabby cat to Civil War bald eagles, scarce Victorian daguerreotypes, stereoviews, cabinet cards and Glass Magic slides detail America’s passion for animals. Both animal and human refreshments will be served at this pet-friendly gallery.

Triumph Brewing Company (400 Union Square Drive) taps a barrel of Chocolate Stout for the occasion. Brewed in the style of Irish Dry Stout with roasted barley and a toasted nutty flavor, Triumph’s creamy Chocolate Stout includes tastes of real milk chocolate. Triumph also features chocolate martinis for $5.00 all evening.

Second Saturdays - New Hope

Over 30 fine art galleries, arts and crafts galleries and specialty shops stay open until 9:00 p.m. for the monthly Second Saturdays event in New Hope, Pennsylvania. Visitors are invited to enjoy free hors d’oevres, special demonstrations, exhibitions and entertainment throughout town.

For locals, Second Saturdays is a great excuse to have a ‘date night’ in their own backyard. “Take your time perusing the galleries and shops, and enjoy a complimentary beverage here and there, before heading over to one of the many restaurants and bars in town,” suggests Louis Licitra, President of the Greater New Hope Chamber of Commerce.
